Castle Rock

Editorial policy

What goes on these pages, where it comes from, how often it is checked, and what to do when it is wrong.

Nothing here is paid for

Listings are free and editorial. No business pays to be listed, and no business can pay to be higher up a page or to be marked as a pick. If sponsorship ever appears on these sites it will be labeled as sponsorship and it will sit beside the listings, never inside them.

Where the facts come from

Inside Castle Rock takes its facts from the operator’s own page first: a restaurant’s own site for its hours, a town’s own calendar for a council meeting, an organizer’s own listing for a festival. Where a business has no site, or a site with no hours, the listing simply has none. A guess that looks like a fact is worse than a gap.

Review sites and business-listing directories are not used as sources. Their hours are user-editable and frequently stale, and their photographs are not ours to publish.

What a page says rests on that checking of sources, not on a visit, unless the page says otherwise. A guide that reports a walk taken, a parking lot checked or a photograph made for it says so in its own words and carries the date; a listing that does not say so is a sourced summary, checked on the date shown, and not a review. A recommendation is an editorial choice from the sources, never a paid rank.

Everything carries its date

Every place and every event records the source it was read from and the day it was last checked against that source, and both are shown on the listing. A weekly report flags anything that has gone thirty days without a re-check. Hours go stale faster than anything else on these sites, so the operator’s own page is always the record and the listing is a pointer to it.

Events

No event is listed without a source. Dates are checked against the weekday they claim to fall on, which is what catches a page that is quietly last year’s. What you see is always a date, never a rule you have to apply yourself: a weekly regular is one listing carrying the run of dates its organizer states, shown once under “Every week” with its next date, and anything else repeating is listed date by date, each one read from the organizer’s own page. Past events drop off on their own.

Photographs

Every photograph on these sites is public domain, openly licensed under terms that allow this use, taken by us, licensed from a photo agency as a photograph of the place itself, or sent to us by whoever holds its rights, with permission to publish it. Each one is recorded with its source, its terms and whether credit is required, and a photograph whose record says credit is required and whose page does not show one fails the build.

We do not copy photographs from a business’s website or social media, or from review sites. A photograph from any of those is used only when its owner sends it to us with that permission. Permission is in writing: an email from the person who took the photograph, or who holds its rights, saying this guide may publish it and how to credit it. If a photographer took it for you, their agreement may be needed too. We keep that email with the photograph’s record, and take the photograph down whenever its owner asks.

Credit goes under the photograph wherever it is shown in full, as the license or the owner asks, and on the photo credits page, which also covers the cards and link previews where a caption will not fit. See the photo credits.

Independence

Inside Castle Rock is published by Lerner Works, which is accountable for everything on it. Inside Castle Rock is not a government site, a chamber of commerce or any public body, and it does not speak for one. Where a guide explains something civic, such as an election, who runs what, or which district serves an address, the explanation is a summary written here from the official records, linked to each of them, and the record controls wherever the two differ. Notices, agendas and official text are linked rather than reproduced.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, tell us and it will be fixed, usually within a day or two. Know something opening or closing? Tell us. Every change made in response to a reader is recorded, with its date, on the corrections log; a correction to an article is also noted on the article. There is no appeal process for being left out and no payment that changes it — if a place belongs in a guide, say so and it goes in.
